True leadership begins with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
Church of the Holy Apostles (COTHA) is a Christ-centered, missional church that is committed to showing love in action. As such, we need a rector willing to build relationships within the church, the surrounding community and our diocese, to empower us in our mission. We are praying for a servant leader with a shepherd’s heart who will walk with us and lead us into a thriving and joyous Christian fellowship, within our church and throughout our community.
The Heart of a Shepherd As a multicultural and largely traditional church, we desire a rector who will maintain our Episcopal heritage and at the same time will lovingly receive many who are new to the denomination. Our new rector must have strong pastoral care skills and share a desire to work with us to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to reach new people and incorporate them into the life of our church. We are looking for someone to live life in the trenches with us while shepherding our staff and leaders in their ministries.
Practical Teaching and Formation Our congregation seeks a rector who has a strong personal relationship with Christ and who is led by the Holy Spirit. We are looking for an instructive pastor that has a deep theological understanding of the Bible and who can distill that knowledge into inspiring and practical teaching. We need a leader who shepherds other leaders and challenges members to live into their calling to lead and serve others. We are called to discipleship, and we seek a leader who will encourage us to grow at every age and stage.
A Passion for Families We understand that a church that is growing is focused on discipling the next generation of believers through family ministry. We live in an area that is home to some of the fastest-growing school systems in the state and sees thousands of new families moving to the area every year. In our effort to attract this vibrant demographic and keep them engaged, we seek a rector who has a passion for families, children and youth, and will help us build a quality program from preschool through every stage of family life.
Collaborative Leader with a Strong Vision We want to be led, but we strongly wish to know where we are going. We appreciate a clear vision and guidance through open and transparent communication with clergy, staff, vestry, leadership and the congregation. We are looking for a collaborative leader with a participative leadership style that serves as an active partner with the staff and the congregation, and who takes the Great Commission to heart, empowering people with a passion for ministry.
The participative style leadership is a blend of task- and people-oriented leadership. We desire someone who provides strong guidance and direction, but also encourages feedback and takes the opinions of those impacted into account before making a final decision. We seek someone who can spot the strengths and weaknesses of themselves and others, and who can utilize these spiritual gifts to build the Kingdom.
